On the morning of September 15th our firm released a notification to importers that there was a case filed with the CIT that may possibly pave the way to refunds on the Section 301 tariffs. We expected a fairly decent response, and what we got was 10x’s that in importer’s knocking on our door to file a case.

To a certain extent, it goes without saying that the pandemic has certainly opened the door for PPE opportunity, and at the same time, obviously, those who would choose to simply try and take advantage of the situation. I’m not talking about price gouging, although that has certainly happened (as always) in abundance.

At the time of this writing, it’s not exactly another day in paradise, over 103,000 Americans are no longer with us, there are an estimated 1,500,000 confirmed U.S. cases of the coronavirus, and I am also ballparking at 40,000,000+ unemployment claims filed at the time of this writing, because just two weeks ago it was at 36,500,000.

I know, I know, some would say, “Are you kidding? They started this pandemic”? Yes, it did start in Wuhan, in China, but finger pointing at this time is not going to help either of us rebound from the economic impact that it has caused both countries.
Living in the current somewhat apocalyptic world, one would be justified in asking the proverbial question, “Why can’t we all just get along?”

One of the many improvements from NAFTA in the newly-ratified United States Mexico Canada Agreement (“USMCA”), is the added ability of your business to directly engage in an ongoing dialogue with a permanently established USMCA committee, whose express purpose is to work with businesses in order to clarify terms of control of the USMCA as well as improve the implementation of this brand new tripartite trade agreement.

The African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) is a free trade area, outlined in the African Continental Free Trade Agreement among 54 of the 55 African Union nations. The free-trade area is the largest in the world in terms of participating countries since the formation of the World Trade Organization. Nigeria and Benin were the hold outs until July of 2019.

Having heard the proverbial expression of “Not putting all of one’s eggs in one basket” since I was about 7 years old, I can’t imagine laying out a marketing strategy and business expansion plan in this day and age without looking at all options, especially for the manufacturing location.

What war? We’re on the right track. The trade deficit between India and the United States has decreased by nearly 7% to USD 1.6 billion in 2018, when compared to 2017. India recorded a decrease in the deficit from USD 22.9 billion in 2017 to USD 21.3 billion in 2018, according to the latest figures by the Bureau of Economy Analysis.
