USMCA & NAFTA – Origin Verification Audits Implemented by MX Customs
Tuesday, May 21st, 2024, 10:30 – 11:30 AM CST
(Q&A to follow)
Customs authorities from the US, CA and MX continue implementing origin verification audits to goods imported into the NAFTA region with preferential treatment based on a NAFTA certificate of origin. They are permitted to review the previous five years, which means that even though NAFTA expired on June 30, 2020, Customs has until June 30, 2025 to audit those operations.
In addition, they have started auditing the origin of goods under the USMCA as well.
In the case of audits implemented by MX Customs, they are focused on high value operations since they are a good target for government revenue. Unfortunately, these audits can be a headache for US or CA companies mainly because of the different legal system, culture, language, etc. This results in the grand majority of the MX Customs rulings being unfavorable for companies.
Join us in this detailed webinar. The information to be presented includes guidance on how to prepare your company for a NAFTA or USMCA origin audit from MX Customs. Also, we will go over the MX proceedings and legal remedies available to challenge an unfavorable NAFTA or USMCA origin denial determination.
We are taking questions in advance of the webinar. Please forward to elisabethicpa@gmail.com
