Jennifer assists companies with a range of international trade issues, including advising Fortune-ranked companies on complex Customs and export issues. Her practice before U.S. Customs and Border Protection includes strategizing voluntary disclosures (prior disclosure), protest filings, application of free trade agreements (NAFTA, U.S. Korea, etc.) and obtaining release of seized merchandise, as well as extensive experience in representing companies with tariff classifications across a range of industries.

Bruce Leeds has decades of experience in international trade law and has successfully served his clients in diverse capacities, from classification and due diligence, to ITAR compliance and drawback. He has significant expertise with importing and exporting high tech products.

Prior to becoming an attorney, Bruce was an Import Specialist at the U.S. Customs Service in Los Angeles for seven years. During this period, he was promoted to Team Leader and developed significant expertise in working with imports of semiconductors and watches. Bruce then joined Hughes Aircraft Company, where he worked in various positions related to import and export compliance.

Brenda Cordova

Brenda graduated from the Universidad Autonoma de San Luis Potosi. She holds an LL.M. degree on International Trade fromThe University of Texas at Austin. She is currently pursuing a PH.D. on Customs and Foreign Trade Law from the Centro Universitario de Estudios Juridicos.

Brenda holds a certification on International Negotiations from the Colegio de Mexico, a certification on introduction to American Law from the University of Pennsylvania, and a certification on the Trade Facilitation Agreement and on Rules of Origin from the World Trade Organization. She is currently pursuing a certification on Foreign Trade and Customs Operation at the ITAM.

Brenda has been involved in Mexican Customs and trade matters since 1994 in the following areas: classification ruling requests, NOMs, import/export procedures, NAFTA/USMCA origin verifications proceedings, rules of origin, IMMEX compliance, foreign investment, and incorporation procedures, among other related topics.

Mike Smiszek brings more than thirty years of diverse trade compliance experience to BCG. He began his career with a major U.S. customs brokerage firm, where he gained experience in practically every aspect of the customs regulations, and where, in anticipation of the implementation of the HTSUS in 1989, Mike led a team tasked with transitioning the firm’s clients’ classification records from the TSUS to the HTSUS. He then moved on to oversee import, export, and anticorruption compliance at several global manufacturers in the defense, telecom, energy, and semiconductor industries.
